Afternoon Tea with Halas Academy
On Saturday 15th August, our Halas Academy took part in their first Afternoon Tea event! This was in collaboration with Halesowen College, who allowed us to use their restaurant, "Bistro @ B63".
Our staff, Rowan Charlton and Sophie Powell, visited Simon Roberts back in April and they made an initial plan of how we could collaborate and work towards it. A date was set for August, and our Academy users visited the Bistro in May. Invites were soon sent out to family members of the Academy and a menu was finalised.

Over June and July, the Academy practiced making food for the afternoon tea, such as shortbread, victoria sponge and scones! We even practiced making gluten free food and learnt about allergies and importance of avoiding cross contamination.
On the morning of 15th August, everyone met with Simon at the college’s bistro. Simon led the day with the extra support of the Bistro staff member Sophie who helped support the team of the day. The team consisted of Luke, Sophie, Keeon, Sam and Lorna. Our staff member and Academy lead Rowan attended on the day to help supervise.

Everyone took turns in the kitchen and main seating area. Bistro staff member Sophie showed them how to polish and fold napkins, while Simon helped instruct in the kitchen. Our menu consisted of the following, which also included some gluten free food;
Cheese & Ham Croissant
Tuna Mayo Sweetcorn Sandwich on Brown Bread
Peri Peri Chicken & Salad Wrap
Strawberry Jam & Clotted Cream Scone
Fruit Skewers
Carrot Cake
Victoria Sponge
Chocolate Dip Shortbread
The families all arrived mid-afternoon and afternoon tea was soon served! Everyone enjoyed their time and finished their plates. Many seconds and thirds were had and even takeaway containers given for extra! The day was a success, and we hope we can do this all again!
